Royal Guard, Attend!
Heareth ye the tales of times past, when good King Henry, mayhap for reasons of his own safety and the continued merriment of the land, did establish the noblest guard. These were no ordinary knaves but a "certain number of choice Archers," their talents honed and their loyalty unyielding. With "allotment of fees and maintenance," they stood as a bulwark against all manner of mischief, ever watchful for the King's and his successors' good. These fine fellows, christened with the title "Yeomen of the Guard," were led by a Captain most worthy.
Historians whisper of John de Vere, Earl of Oxford, a man of singular loyalty. Through trials and tribulations, he stood steadfast by King Henry's side. In the desolate days of exile, he offered solace. Upon the battlefield, he wielded his army with unmatched skill. And at the momentous Battle of Bosworth, his archers, swift and deadly, led the vanguard to victory. Given such unwavering devotion and martial prowess, can there be any doubt that the Earl would be the King's choice for Captain of this most esteemed guard?
Scarborough Faire Royal Honor Guard continues today under the leadership of our Captain, Sir Charles Blackwell. We are a band of dedicated souls sworn to protect the sovereign and ensure the revelry continues unhindered. Clad in gleaming armor and wielding fearsome (yet ultimately harmless) weaponry, we patrol the festival grounds, ensuring a safe and joyous experience for all who enter. But fear not, gentle travelers! Though our duty is stern, our hearts are merry. We are a lively bunch, ready to engage in playful banter, pose for photographs, and regale you with tales of yore. So, venture forth, brave adventurer, and greet the Royal Guard! We stand ready to usher you into a world of enchantment.
